DILEP – Diode laser enucleation of the prostate
Currently laser resectioning of the prostate is becoming more commonly carried out by urologists in cases of unavoidable surgical treatment of Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH).
In our clinic we make use of a 150 and 200 watt 980 nm diode laser designated for endoscopic operation of the prostate. The operations are carried out by Dr Tomasz Maliszewski, who is the most experienced practitioner in Poland in conducting this type of operation. Because of the high effectiveness of the procedure and much greater safety in carrying it out, laser resectioning of the prostate is becoming the gold standard in treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia.
Benefits of laser:
- High power of laser – short operation
- Relatively low cost of treatment for patient
- Minimum blood loss
- Discharge from hospital the day after the treatment, without a catheter
- Greater safety and a smaller number of complications
Indications – retention of urine due to the prostate, persistent symptoms of blockage or sudden urgency not responding to regular treatment, complication of the prostate (e.g., urolithiasis - urinary tract stones, large amount of urine retention).
Qualifying patients – the patient must have a consultation with the urologist, and have a basic blood test, including PSA and USG with a full bladder, and if the patient is being treated due to cardiological or internal reasons the patient will need an assessment from the cardiologist and internist (especially if the patient takes blood thinning medications).
